Hoppy Monk’s Happy hour brings affordable prices to the typically pricey North San Antonio area. While most visits to the Stone Oak establishment can send you back anywhere from $6 to $12 for beer, their happy hour, appropriately named “Hoppy Hour” prices drinks and spirits in a more approachable range. The menu includes drafts, cocktails, spirits and wine, all priced between $4 and $6 dollars. These specials leave you with more to spend on snacks and excellent entrees.

The Hoppy Monk, which started in El Paso, opened a second location in SA town on the Northside off of loop 1604 about three years ago.The spot features one of the largest tap walls in San Antonio with over 50 beers on tap and some available in bottles. The Hoppy Monk happy hour gives you the opportunity to sample unique beers and a great cocktail program that utilizes fresh ingredients and local products, some grown by Hoppy Monk staff members themselves.

 

Cocktail of the MomentOn my most recent visit to the Hoppy Monk, though I was intrigued by the massive beer wall and the Leopold Bros. Fernet that they had on the happy hour menu, I opted to try their rotating cocktail of the moment, which is priced at $5 during the discounted hours. The cocktail, Bitter Rivals, was a delicious concoction made with Diplomatico Reserve Rum, Caffe De Fuego, house-made vermouth and bitters. It was boozy, and yet sweet at the same time and was perfect for sipping while enjoying conversations either on the patio or at the bar top.

While you might not be able to get the Bitter Rivals, be sure to check out what Cocktail of the Moment is on their rotating menu. If it fails to peek your interest, they do have classics, like the Old Fashioned, available on the Happy Hour list as well.

If after all the booze you’re feeling peckish- grab the brussel sprouts or the mac of the moment for about $8. Both are washed down nicely with any of the happy hour specials and are effective in staving off hanger.

Hoppy Hour at the Hoppy Monk runs Tuesday through Friday from 3 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., Sunday through Thursday 10:30 p.m. to close, and all day Monday.
