Betty’s Battalion Happy Hour For the Ages

Betty’s Battalion Happy Hour For the Ages

Pulling up to Betty’s Battalion might leave you underwhelmed, judging by the exterior of the bar, which has been housed in a strip center next to Fort Sam Houston for the past 30 years. However the once you open the doors, you are greeted by cozy ambiance in the form of colorful string lights, pictures and military memorabilia filling the walls, and the smiling faces of old and young alike.

The foundation for Betty’s, which opened in the 1980s, was rooted as a place for military folk to visit and grab a cold beer with friends. In August, the Current ran an article noting changes coming to Betty’s including the addition of liquor to the once booze-less bar.

That time has finally come, and with it a new happy hour. Betty’s is now offering $3 wells and special liquors, which can vary daily; frequently it will include either SoCo or Crown Royal. The bar is also keeping their beer specials going during happy hour with $2.50 Tecate and Tecate Light, $3 pints of Bud Light or Dos Equis, and $5 pitchers of Long Island iced teas, Bud Light or Dos Equis.

While one shouldn’t visit Betty’s on a first date (unless you’re both into cozy dives), it is the perfect place to visit with friends or in a group. During the discount hour you can save a few bucks on drinks and play pool, darts, or just sit on the patio and converse. Outside of happy hour, the prices only increase by a buck a two, so you can keep drinking at a low cost. Which is great because it’s easy to lose track of time while trying to take in all the collectibles and artifacts that are littering the walls. The decor makes for a great conversation starter and contributes to the relaxing atmosphere that Betty’s has established.

Happy hour runs Tuesday through Sunday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.

1524 E. Grayson St., (210)227-9255.
